Jo's Crust Clydesdale Cerakote Surly

Jo's Crust Clydesdale Cerakote Surly

PUP TRUCK

Jo asked us if we would put together her Surly 1x1 with a Crust Clydesdale fork she'd bought from America, in the hopes of building something that can carry her whippet, Willow.

Obviously we had to oblige our friend and make it happen, but could not resist putting our touch on the build, with a set of our handbuilt wheels, and a nice fresh Cerakote.

CERAKOTE

We recently got ourselves a new (to us) sandblasting cabinet, and everything needed to apply Cerakote. Cerakote is similar to powdercoat, however it has ceramic in it which gives it some more durable properties. It also means that it comes in a range of nice muted colours. Jo settled on Desert Sand- which is a finish you would normally find on a Glock handgun...

We cut custom decals on our laser cutter, to use as masks, including a teeny whippet to be hidden on the downtube behind the chainring. We also painted the faceplate of her stem to match. For our first venture into refinishing a frame we are very happy with the results.

THE BUILD

As we spend far too much time in the workshop, we decided to take everything to the woods behind our workshop on cargo bikes to complete the build. We recently discovered a private forest that includes a series of bridges and waterfalls, which as the leaves have begun to fall feels like a very magical setting. To see more of the bike, you can go to youtube where there is video edit of the build.
